Documentary 1 | Part 1
This is our first documentary, marking the end of Series II of Think Tank.
After months of research and interviews, we are proud to present a two-part podcast exposing the homeless crisis facing the capital city of Wales.
Part one begins with a story from ‘Thomas’, not his real name, we respected his wishes to remain anonymous given the sensitivity of his story and work. Thomas’s story acts as the backbone of the documentary with many of the interviews segueing off chapters of his story. We spoke to ‘Paul’, a man living on the street in central Cardiff . He tells us about his life on the streets for the past 9 years, the highs and lows, and the tale of a near-death experience only a few weeks prior. Harry and co-producer Tanya go out in the city looking for ‘Spice’ a ‘legal’-high which is prevalent amongst this community, causing more harm than good. And finally, Harry takes part in the ‘Student Sleep Out’, an initiative from Cardiff University Students’ Union which aims to raise awareness for those sleeping rough in the cold winter.
Next time we ask ‘is enough being done?’, we look at the complexities of the crisis, we speak to Jo Stevens MP and get reaction from students the morning after the sleep-out.
With thanks to Thomas for his willingness to share his story and speak from his heart about a problem he faced and now works to fix. To Paul and Ginger, who by now are due to be in a council housing.
And to Sammy, Beth, Katie C, Megan, Pacôme, Yasmin, Lilly, Jessica, Ciara, Georgia, Katie V, Alisha, Evey, Lorena, Abigail, Francesca, Sally, Michelle, Hannah and all the other participants and organisers of the Student Sleep-out, for agreeing to be a part of this project.
Think Tank Investigates was presented and produced by Harry Bligh, with music and sound by Rowan Lees. Additional production from Tanya Harrington.
